Coaches' Newsletter #3
We had a busy weekend! This Saturday, we faced off against the Woodley Garden Waves at home in our nerdy gear. However, we swam like world-class athletes. Amy Qin broke the 13-14 50m Freestyle and the 13-14 100m IM record for the Sharks. Makenzie shattered the 15-18 100m Freestyle record as well. Good job ladies! The Sharks dominated the Waves the whole meet and we won with a score of 413.5 - 378.5. Yep, that's right, we move to 3-0 in Division B. Keep it up Sharks!
The very next day, we trekked 30 minutes up to Damascus for our A Relay Carnival. We had amazing swims from everyone, and some of us even qualified for All-Star Relays. Bear with me as I list them off: Charlie Qin, Ashley Woo, Young Cho, Amy Qin, Brianna Yan, Taotao Xu, Justin Liu, Alisia Yan, Jack Yan, Jason Li, Zaka Pesin, Ewan Han. Tied for 2nd at halftime, the Sharks stepped it up and finished alone in 2nd to end the meet. Great job to everyone!
This Wednesday, we went to Lakelands to swim against the Lionfish. We were AMAZING! Out of the 170 events that were swum by us, over 90 were dropped times! That means we improved in more than half of our events. Team spirit was at an all time high. Our 10 & under girls and boys could not stop cheering on their teammates. Naomi Yeung was our Sharky Award winner for that meet. Here's the list of winners so far:
Week 1: Amber Chang, Week 2: Naima Cho-Khaliq, Week 3: Lina Seo + Naomi Yeung.
Where are the GUYS? Boys let's pick it up! Be loud & spirited this upcoming week. We gotta win the rest of these Sharky Awards!!
This week's theme is "Red, White, & Blue." This Friday afternoon, we do not have practice. We have our spirit event at 5:30 instead. There will be pasta, salad, watermelon, and lemonade to buy. After we finish eating, we will be tie-dying shirts for the swimmers to wear to the meets. All you have to bring is a white t-shirt, we will supply the dye. Come out and show off your most creative designs!
We will be facing the Wildwood Manor Wombats this Saturday at home and the Cloppers Mill Marlins at their home Wednesday. These mark the 4th meets of this season. Officially past the half way mark, it's all a downhill breeze from here!
The swimmers that have qualified for the Coaches' Long Course Meet have been announced. Representing the Stonebridge Sharks are: Elizabeth Chen, Amy Qin, Ashley Woo, Makenzie Higgins, Taotao Xu, Alisia Yan, Zaka Pesin, and Jason Li. A big congratulations to all of you! I encourage everyone to come out to this meet and cheer on our team. If you have a swimmer swimming, I ask you to volunteer! The meet needs volunteers to run and MCSL could really use your help. Information for this meet can be found at www.mcsl.org under "All-Star Information", then under "Long Course". You may also email me if you have any questions.
Be on the lookout for future emails!
